Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the School of Medicine is the oldest medical school department in the United States devoted to diseases of the eye. Since it was created in 1873, its dedication to better sight for all has led to many research and surgical innovations, including the creation of the modern-day ophthalmoscope and the first surgery to correct strabismus.
