BioMET Lederer Research Fund A Project of School of Medicine - Research

The BioMET Lederer Research Fund is in memory of William J. Lederer, who died in 2010 and was the co-author of the 1958 bestselling political novel "The Ugly American." The Lederer Fund supports collaborative activities of the Center for Biomedical Engineering and Technology (BioMET) at the School of Medicine to facilitate research, communication, and interaction between faculty members both within the Center and with colleagues and visitors outside the Center.

BioMET research addresses a diverse set of diseases, including cardiovascular (such as sudden cardiac death, arrhythmia, heart failure), neurodegenerative (including ALS, Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease), skeletal muscle (multiple dystrophies), prion disease (i.e, mad cow, Creutzfeld-Jakob), and mitochondrial diseases.
