Honoring Dr. Robert "Bob" Gallo's 80th Birthday

Recognizing Dr. Gallo's legacy and training the next generation of medical virologists

Honoring Dr. Robert "Bob" Gallo's 80th Birthday A Project of Institute of Human Virology

For decades, Dr. Robert "Bob" Gallo has been a trailblazer in medical research. His life and legacy stand on their own -- his accomplishments and groundbreaking work have transformed the field of human virology. Bob's discovery of human retroviruses beginning with the Human T Cell Leukemia Virus (HTLV) and his co-discovery of HIV as the cause of AIDS have revolutionized how we research, diagnose, and treat chronic and deadly viral and immune disorders.

Bob and his colleagues saved hundreds of thousands of lives with the development of the HIV blood test. His laboratory laid the path for effective antiviral therapy and HIV preventive vaccine development. His leadership of the Institute of Human Virology has galvanized a new generation of medical researchers and clinicians to battle future global virus pandemics.

On the occasion of his 80th birthday, we have much for which to honor Bob Gallo -- including his unwavering commitment to mentor junior scientists in their pursuit of innovative biomedical research and discovery. Under Bob's guidance, these young, risk-taking researchers are primed to uncover answers that shape treatment, cures, and more.

As we celebrate Bob's birthday and recognize all he has done for mankind, let's also fund the next generation of well-trained medical virologists. IHV is hosting a celebratory Roast & Toast for Bob Gallo on May 11, 2017.

Funds raised around this event -- whether through tickets, sponsorships, or donations -- support the newly created Against the Tide Research Fund, for IHV's next generation of risk-taking young scientists who, like Dr. Gallo, are tenacious in their pursuit of discovery. Thank you for your support.

How can you help?

As of April 14, 2017, ad purchases for the commemorative booklet for the Roast & Toast are closed. Thank you to those who donated ads for the booklet.

Your gift of any size in recognition of Dr. Gallo will support the newly created Against the Tide Research Fund, for IHV's next generation of risk-taking young scientists who, like Dr. Gallo, are tenacious in their pursuit of discovery.Thank you.
