Linda W. Spittel Memorial Scholarship Fund A Project of School of Medicine Tributes - Honor and Memorial Gifts

Linda W. Spittel passed away on April 1, 2015, at the age of 65. She graduated from the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (PTRS) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1971.

The Linda W. Spittel Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in Linda's memory, will provide scholarship support to PTRS students interested in pediatric physical therapy.

Linda was responsible for pioneering the first Infant and Toddler Program in Maryland and was instrumental in formulating Maryland's Infant and Toddler service regulations in response to federal mandates. In her professional and personal life, Linda was an outspoken advocate for children with special needs -- especially in the areas of inclusion, accessibility, and insurance coverage for pediatric therapy -- throughout her career.

For more than 25 years, Linda was a therapist at Care Resources and ultimately assumed the role of Vice President of Clinical Affairs. She oversaw multiple services for 75,000-plus students as well as Care Resources's private practice, responsibilities to which she applied the comprehensive education she received at PTRS.

The Linda W. Spittel Memorial Scholarship Fund honors Linda's legacy as an outstanding pediatric therapist who was known to many as an innovator, mentor, supervisor, and manager.

How can you help?

PTRS's goal is to create an endowed student scholarship of $50,000 and take advantage of a current scholarship matching opportunity (offered by the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation). To qualify for this match, commitments of $36,000 must be made before December 2015 and paid within five years.
